No Joy in Brickville Today

Oh, somewhere in this favored land the sun is shining bright;
The band is playing somewhere, and somewhere hearts are light,
And somewhere men are laughing, and somewhere children shout;
But there is no joy in Brickville - both teams have struck out.

Iowa Central played a tough, hard game today and came up on the short end of a 2-1 score.  I can't wait to see the box score to see how many shots that Iowa Central had.  They dominated play in the first half but with the exception of Madeline Brick's goal in the 5th minute none of the other shots found the back of the net.  The first half ended 1-0 and it appeared that IC was 45 minutes from having the game in hand.  Both teams started the second half the way the first half had ended with the defensive units of both teams holding some advantage over the offensive sides. However, about 6 minutes into the second half Dakota County took a long shot from 30 yards out that was just over the GK's fingers and just under the crossbar.  The goal only set the Lady Tritons back a little bit because they just kept attacking the goal.  We had several golden opportunities but was just off a little bit, with the ball bouncing off the woodwork on a couple of shots and just narrowly missing on a couple more.  With about 20 minutes left in the game Dakota County scored on a free kick to the goal box which was finished with a great volley. Iowa Central doubled and redoubled their efforts but could not equalize although they dominated all play except in the final third of the field. The Lady Tritons left everything they had on the field and deserved a better result but it wasn't to be.  They should be very proud of their performance today and with their season.  I filmed the game and will post highlights in this post as soon as I get them edited.

Central Methodist was on the road today at Missouri Valley College in Marshall, MO and according to a text that was received lost 4-1.  Here is the recap from the college web site and the box score from DakStats.
