Central Methodist vs Graceland University

I watched a better performance from CMU in this match up than has been shown in the last 4 games but they still came up short on the score line losing 4-1 to the #10 ranked Graceland Lady Yellow Jackets.  The Graceland team had trounced the #15 ranked William Jewell team 5-0 just 3 days before and William Jewell defeated CMU by the same 5-0 score line on the 29th so I was expecting a blowout.  The officiating was horrible and inconsistent but was not responsible for 3 of the 4 goals that GU put in the net and were not to blame for the absence of  CMU scoring attacks and shots but certainly were accountable for diminishing my enjoyment of the game.  They were also bad enough for the normally composed CMU coach to become very verbal on several occasions and  drew a caution from the center referee.  In a conversation with some GU parents we were told that the center referee was the father of GU's assistant coach and even they were not pleased with the shadow that the poor officiating placed on the game.

Here is the Recap and the Box Score from the Graceland University website so it might have a different twist from the facts (as I see them ;)).  I will edit this post when the information is available on CMU's site letting you view the differences. (Recap from CMU and Box Score from DakStats3000) We were watching the game sitting next to the press box and could hear the play by play that was being broadcast over the Internet.  It was very interesting to hear the slant that the announcer was putting on the game and I am certain that if she had a very sensitive microphone that the comments of a few CMU parents could be heard.  I will have to listen to the entire broadcast to see if I made the broadcast.  Here is the Link  to take you to the broadcast, you will then need to click on the tab "On Demand" and then click on the "Listen" tab on the Graceland's Women Soccer vs Central Methodist selection.

Our entire entourage went to eat and celebrate October birthdays at a local restaurant after the game and a good time was had by all.  We made it back to the soccer pitch to watch the last 30 minutes of the 2nd half of the men's game.  The officiating had not improved as it was the same crew but in different positions.  There were several moments when the game got out of control and a couple of absolutely horrible calls did determine the outcome of the game with the awarding of a penalty kick that tied the game and sent it into overtime and a red card in the 91st minute.  We did not stay for the overtime periods but Meredith texted me that CMU lost 4-3 with an own goal in the first overtime period.  What a heartbreaking way to lose.
